While in the Netherlands (See part 1 and part 2 for more info about of our trip!) we definitely wanted to make sure we saw the famous tulips! One of the first things we booked when making plans for this trip was a trip to the Keukenhof Gardens. We were excited to be going during the bloom, and to see the epic amount of tulips and other flowers that are displayed there. I knew it was a popular destination, but was not prepared for the sheer amount of people that would be there. The website allows you to book public transit at the same time as your tickets, which involves a bus that takes you from city centre to the airport, and another from the airport to the gardens. The line at the airport when we went was over an hour lo ng to get on the Keukenhof Express bus, cut down a bit by the fact that we were willing to stand on the half hour bus ride instead of sit. So for those of you that have trouble standing for long periods of time in line or on a bus, you may want to think about doing a coach tour instead.
The gardens were as amazing as advertised! So many beautiful kinds of flowers laid out in interesting arrangements. We spent a few hours there and explored most of the grounds, but didn’t make it into all the cut flower and building displays. You could easily spend most of a day here as they have boat rides and there are nearby tulip fields you can wander. Definitely worth a visit, and be prepared for crowds and lots of selfie sticks!
Have you visited Keukenhof or any other flower displays? What did you think?
