Where We’re Headed in 2018

We got a bit enthusiastic with our booking for the first half of 2018. It’s our last year in the UK, so we wanted to make the most of it! (Even if making the most of it means accidentally booking too many days off work. Oops). Our destinations this year are further flung and a bit more challenging to plan in some cases, but I can’t wait. Any advice or tips on what to see or do are always appreciated.

Madrid

To escape the January dreariness, we are headed for a long weekend in Madrid, with a night in Toledo to experience the gorgeous medieval city.

Courchevel, France

We’re meeting friends from the US (and some from the UK) for a week of skiing in the worlds largest ski area. I absolutely cannot wait!

Bratislava & Vienna

Since the two cities are only an hour apart by train, we’re visiting both! I’m looking forward to great beer, hearty food and classical music!

Sicily

We’re heading to the home of many of my favourite foods for a long weekend and hopefully getting a chance to see an active volcano.

Romania

It was so hard deciding what to see in Romania, our long weekend plan turned into a week. We’re visiting Bucharest, Brasov and Sibiu, and planning to visit plenty of castles, hike and hopefully see some bears.

Bosnia & Herzegovina

My biggest regret of last years Croatia trip was not crossing the border, so to make up for it, we’re spending a few days in Sarajevo and Mostar.

Italy

Both sets of parents are meeting us in Italy for a whirlwind tour through Venice, the Cinque Terre, Siena and Florence.

The World Cup

We got tickets in the random draw to two matches in Moscow and one in Kazan, so I’m looking forward to exploring those cities and taking my first overnight train!

It sounds insanely busy to see it all written down but I can’t wait! We’re also looking into traveling to Budapest, Greece and Morocco, if we can find time to fit them in.

Where are you headed in 2018? Have you visited any of these places? What shouldn’t we miss?

      1. Nice games. 🙂 Too bad US didn’t qualify. I feel you, because Slovenia didn’t qualify either.
Not sure yet. We got tickets for round of 16. If I remember correctly we’ll se playing the winners from group B playing against second in group A and winners from group E against the second of the group F. (or maybe is reverse, I forgot). We’ll see who will that be. 🙂

    1. Haha it’s a bit ambitious, but hopefully it will be fun! We’re moving back to the US in autumn, so I’m sure that will keep me busy!

Looks amazing! We’re having a baby in May so have no plans for travel this year beyond a short winter sun break in Lanzarote end of Feb. Silly really, we have more holiday than when we were living in the States, but just seem to use it on UK breaks and staycations. Mind you, there’s still stuff in London we’ve not seen/done and we’ve lived here over ten years!

    1. Congratulations! That’s so exciting! Some winter sun will be nice and there’s plenty to see in London and the UK, especially with a family 🙂

Walking the West Highland Way trail for a week, and then a week exploring the country!

      2. That trail is on my bucket list! We did a long distance walk in the Cotswolds last year and ever since I’ve been wanting to do it. I’m sure it will be a fantastic trip with plenty of gorgeous highland views!

You should definitely try to get to Budapest, possibly my favourite place I’ve visited in Europe! After living in the U.K. you will see it as incredibly cheap too haha!
