This weekend we headed out for more fell walking, this time to Catbells, a beautiful but steep hike overlooking Derwentwater in the Lake District. It was extremely windy, and we only managed to stay at the summit for a few minutes before finding shelter from the wind to eat our sandwiches but the views were phenomenal. The hike isn’t long but it is continuously pretty steep, and there is a bit of scrambling at the end. If you complete a loop, the hike down is more gradual and provides continual views of the water. This walk is conveniently close to Keswick (the town visible in the photos) so we stopped in for a wander through the market and of course, a pint of local real ale.

Keswick was a bit too far away for this trip, but it looks like an interesting place to visit !

It’s a cute town! (Like all the Lake District towns haha) but the best part is the Keswick stone circle which has amazing views.

Friends of ours did this hike a couple of weeks ago and raved about it – I’d never heard of Catbells before but it looks gorgeous on your pics!

Tea and cakes can never go wrong. The views on the hike is very nice, too bad it was to windy to enjoy it after the struggle getting up, but guess it is that time of year:)

A fantastic fell walk. A couple of years ago I planted some oak saplings on the slopes of Catbells. I often head over there to see how they’re getting on.

Definitely one of the best I’ve done so far. It looks like there’s an effort to replant some of the slopes there, is that where you planted them?

Yes, on the lower slopes. Will enjoy keeping an eye on their progress over the years.
