Looking back, 2017 was a big year and a good one. We kicked it off by getting married, travelled to a lot of new places and hiked a few Wainwrights. We managed to make the most of our last full year as residents of the UK, and even managed relax a little.
January
The obvious highlight of January was the wedding! The relaxing week that followed in St. Lucia wasn’t bad either!
February
To escape the cold dark winter days in England, we headed south to Seville and Ronda. Ronda was the most pleasant surprise of the year, I almost liked this gorgeous small town more than Seville!
March
In March we visited the Eternal City. Rome did not disappoint. The pantheon, the Vatican and the gelato met our high expectations, and I would like to make it back someday as there’s loads more to see!
April
In April, I ran the London marathon, and aided my recovery with a trip to the south of France. We enjoyed seafood on the beach in Nice, visited the extravagant Monte Carlo and discovered a love of rose wine in Provence.
May
Croatia and Slovenia made for an amazing road/boat/train trip. From Lake Bled to the glamourous island of Hvar and famous city of Dubrovnik, each stop was beautiful and adventurous. Travel wise, this was the highlight of the year for me.
July
We visited friends in Zurich and hiked in the shadow of the Eiger in Grindelwald. The scenery was epic, and I ate more cheese in three days than I usually do in a few months. And it was delicious.
August
My sisters visited in August, and we had a 10 day whirlwind trip through London, the Lake District and Edinburgh. We hiked, we attended the Fringe and saw the sights of London.
September
Oktoberfest had been on our to-do list for a long time, and we finally made it! It was a blast- with lots of singing, eating and of course drinking beer!
October
I didn’t know much about Malta until we planned our trip there in October. It’s a small island with some fascinating history, both ancient and modern, and beautiful beaches to boot. AND it was warm enough to swim in the sea in October.
November
November had the shortest trip of the year, a quick weekend jaunt to Dortmund to watch a Bundesliga game and visit Christmas markets!
December
At the end of December, we made our annual trip home to see family and friends, and braved FREEZING temperatures!
Overall, it was a pretty epic year, and I can’t wait to see what 2018 has in store.
